Letter from Gerald Davis to Les Vipond regarding Sir George Williams wax cylinder recording
Description:
This letter is a response to a previous letter written by Les Vipond to the Springfield College librarian requesting information on the whereabouts and condition of the Sir George Williams wax cylinder recording, written in 1972. In the letter Davis indicates that the original wax cylinder is located in Springfield College's Babson Library in its original shipping carton and that it is in fair condition. Mr. Davis further explains to Mr. Vipond that the library possesses further documentation related to the recording and that he is enclosing some additional materials. In 1894, the YMCA Training School, now Springfield College, hosted a Jubilee Celebration to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the YMCA. Sir George Williams wrote a letter to the Jubilee Class which he recorded on a wax cylinder that was sent to the Training School and played during the celebration.
