<mods:abstract>Description of the YMCA Jubilee Day celebrations at the International YMCA Training School, now Springfield College, held on June 6, 1894. The description comes from the 1894 Triangle, the school's yearbook. The event celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the YMCA. The featured part of the celebrations was a letter written by Sir George Williams, founder of the YMCA, and recorded on a wax cylinder that was then played at the Jubilee Celebration. Along with a listing of the days' events, the description also includes a transcript of Williams' letter to the class.</mods:abstract>
<mods:note>Sir George Williams founded the YMCA in London in 1844 and the movement quickly spread to Ireland and Scotland, and in 1851 to North America. By the time George Williams was knighted by Queen Victoria in 1894, the 50th anniversary of the YMCA, there were 5,000 YMCAs in 24 countries with 500,000 members.</mods:note>
