Henry L. Hadcock photographic collection, 1880s-1900s
Description:
The Henry L. Hadcock Photographic Collection contains approximately 400 original negatives, from which study prints have been made. Hadcock focused his interest as a photographer on the idea of the neighborhood and its homes, stores, parks, vistas, and families, viewed in association with their homes, engaged in pastimes, or their daily activities. Hadcock's photography is vernacular in respect to documenting the material culture and social life of middle-class families, portraying them with a spontaneity and attention to small details often absent from the work of commercial photographers. Most of the images depict several communities in Massachusetts, including Roxbury, Dorchester, Canton, Norton, and Wellfleet. Source: Guide to the Library and Archives, 8.
