The Mercantile Library offers books, literary activities and entertainments to its members. Text on the card reads "The Association, the oldest of its kind in the country, was organized March 11, 1820; and, with the exception of the Public Library and Athenaeum, the Mercantile Library is the largest circulating library in Boston."
