Description:
The Old Elm, also known as the Great Elm, stood at the foot of Flagstaff Hill on Boston Common, was considered a landmark of the city and was called the oldest known tree in New England. The tree succumbed to the gales of a storm and toppled onto the ground on February 15, 1876. Parts of the tree were removed as souvenirs.
