Schoolroom at Canterbury Shaker Village. On the right side of the picture is the teacher, who is seated behind a cloth covered desk. She is looking at a book, from the stack of books on the left of the desk. Left of her desk and in the forefront of the picture is a table on which stands a globe. To the right of the desk, and across the room, three students, two boys and one girl are seated. Across from the teacher and seated behind student desks, are a group of young boys and girls. The room is decorated with maps and charts, etc. "Very young boys attended classes with girls during the summer. The large broadside served as a teaching aid in elocution lessons." (The Shaker Image, 2nd edition, p. 84). Photographer: W. G. C. Kimball, Concord, is printed on the right and left margins of the card.
