Photomechanical illustration of the interior of the Old Ship Meeting House, Hingham, facing pulpit
Description:
This interior view displays the Old Ship Meeting House in Hingham, Massachusetts, the only surviving 17th century meeting house in the United States. Elements of the hip roof structure are visible, such as the curved struts, king post, rafters, and purlins. The ground floor is comprised of box pews with a central aisle leading to the pulpit, with a sounding-board above it and two Palladian windows behind it. There are galleries on both sides of the meeting house.
