A view of Tremont Street from number 1165 near Whittier Street in Roxbury, Massachusetts. Trolley car tracks run down the middle of Tremont Street. Numerous businesses line the street, including Murray's Café, Bell Auto Parts, and Wales Weatherproofing (1165 Tremont Street). Murray's Café opened in 1935 and then James M. Connolly purchased it. He renamed the bar Connolly's Stardust Room and turned it into a leading jazz club in Boston, where luminaries such as Duke Ellington, Coleman Hawkins, and Dexter Gordon played. Numerous cars are parked along both sides of the street. A campaign sign of Curley for mayor hangs on the side of a building on the left-hand side of Tremont Street.
