Dr. Winslow Lewis was a Boston Public Library Trustee and president of the New England Historic Genealogical Society. The House was built by Captain Winslow Lewis, the doctor's father. The photograph was taken from the southwest corner of the Boston Common looking across Boylston Street. The old Providence Depot, razed in 1872, can be seen in Park Square on the right side of the image. Carver Street with its row of houses can be seen on the left side.
