New Jail and Keeper's House, at South Boston, Mass.
Description:
Gridley James Fox Bryant designed a new Suffolk County jail and jail keeper's house to be built in South Boston, Massachusetts. The three-story Federal-style building in front of the jail was to be the warden's house. The Boston Common Council rejected the design for the house and accepted the design for the jail. Community opposition halted the plan to build the jail in South Boston, which was later built on Charles Street in Boston. The print is dated August 1845.
