From a series of audio recordings with members of Boston's Black community about the busing crisis of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Counsel for the plaintiffs in the continuing desegregation suit against Boston Public Schools and in 1982, unsuccessfully requested that the court halt mandatory busing, arguing that it had failed to produce quality education, and replace it with a more flexible "freedom of choice" plan. Johnson discusses his role as lead counsel for the plaintiffs in Morgan v. Hennigan from 1977; work with parents' groups in the city.
