A 5" x 7" black and white photograph, pasted onto a black page from an album, of a group of children posing outdoors and holding American flags. One child has a drum, another has a bicycle, and one is dressed in a military uniform and helmet. An accompanying note identifies the photograph as showing "a group of children celebrating the Armistice in 1919 [sic]. Photograph was taken on Irving Road with Waban Ave. in back." The donor, Lois Rice McWilliam, "was not in the picture because she was playing with her friend who was the daughter of Mr. Kahle who lived next door. Kahle was German and sympathetic to the German cause in WWI. Mr. Rice and Mr. Kahle had differences over the war; Lois out of sympathy for her friend, chose to play with her on the day of the children's parade instead of participating in it." It is unclear if the photo was taken at the time of the Armistice (November 1918) or after the signing of the Treaty of Versailles (June 1919).
