Description:
By the 1890s, Soledad had twenty-two miles of private, narrow-gauge railroad. Engines like the "Aramao" were used to transport cut sugar cane from the fields to the Soledad factory for processing. The "Aramao" is a Baldwin 2-8-0 steam engine, built new for the Soledad mill in 1909. It was still in operation as recently as 1995. From the Atkins family photographs Photo. 37.216a
