Description:
Class of 1945 President Joseph Charles Kunces, in white shorts and shirt, joins three other students on the ground as they strain at the rope during the traditional campus rope pull. Grace "Betty" Mentzer Boyd stands behind his right side, urging on another man while holding a bag. She was enrolled as Betty Mentzer during her freshman year, then married in her sophomore year and became Betty Boyd. Note accompanying photo reads: "Class of '45 in rope pull in Sept. 1946, we lost. [Illegible] man in middle is class prez Jose Kunces." Photo and commentary provided by Irmarie Scheueneman Jones ('45).
