Formal portrait of Lewis Abel Nichols, Class of 1871. After graduation he worked as a civil engineer, partly in private practice, in various towns and with various railroad companies. He was extensively involved in building railroad lines and extensions throughout the United States. Eventually he became a consulting engineer and was president of the Chicago Steel Tape Company, which he organized. He passed away on March 9, 1919. "Lewis A.
