Description:
Letter from Joel Halpern to his parents describing his trip through Europe in 1949. This letter includes descriptions from his time in Italy including visits to Milan and Venice. Halpern describes seeing the Grand Canal of Venice as well as the Festa del Redentore (Festival of the Holy Redeemer) and the Cathedral of San Marco. Halpern also describes the streets, alleys and canals of Venice a number of times. The descriptions of Milan are similar, describing the Cathedral of Milan, a visit to see Da Vinci's Last Supper at Santa Maria delle Grazie. Having been severely damaged during World War II, Halpern describes the building after some reconstruction of the walls that were destroyed by Allied bombing raids in 1943.
