Interview of a native preacher from the local mission
Description:
This interview was included in letters from Joel M. Halpern to Carl and Nettie Halpern during the time spent in Laos with the United States Operations Mission. Halpern's translator, Aram Udol, interviewed several people during this time. This interviewee, a Khmu', speaks about a belief of the Khmu' in a legendary king named Djung who is said to come and give all good things exclusively to the Khmu' people. He also speaks of other related beliefs of the Khmu' people. He describes that the Protestant missionaries are more tolerant of the practice of polygamy among the Hmong than are the Roman Catholics.
