Item Information
- Title:
- Ice Hockey Team at Springfield College, 1905
- Description:
-
This glass negative shows the men's ice hockey team from the 1904/1905 academic year. These students played for the International YMCA Training School, now known as Springfield College. They are, left to right, [top row] Frederick C. Hill, Dexter W. Draper, George S. Maxwell, [middle row] Edward J. Robertson, Charles R. Foster, [bottom row] Wilfred S. Cousins, Arthur B. Dawson, John Roy, and Warren J. Ricketts. According to the Massasoit, this team “was probably the best in the history of the game at [Springfield College].” They were scheduled to play more games and face larger schools than ever before. However, the weather caused the cancellation of five games. Of the remaining five games, Springfield College went 2-2-1. Currently the college acknowledges the sport as a club sport. The team is sitting on the East Gymnasium stairs of Judd Gymnasia.
