75 pages of prints and contact sheets of photographs taken by Adams Claflin of family members and home scenes, and the glass plate negatives from which they were printed. Many of the photos depict Claflin's wife, Agnes (Walker) Claflin; his daughter, Mildred, at many ages; and his infant son, William. Two photos are labeled "Maud Maid" and "Nellie Maid." Adams Claflin (1862-1933) was the son of Massachusetts Governor William Claflin and himself a prominent member of the Newton community. Listed in the Newton City Directory as an electrician (1889-1895) and as president of Commonwealth Avenue St. Railway Company (1899-1901), Newton and Boston Railway Company (1901-1905), and Boston Suburban Electric Company (1907-1915), he was instrumental in linking several communities by rail. He lived with his wife and children at 156 Grant Avenue in Newton Centre. He was a vestryman at Trinity Church. Housed with the photographs are biographical notes and publications, and copies of deeds and other materials related to 156 Grant Avenue.
