Text on the card verso reads "Zephyr worsteds and all materials for embroidery, hosiery, gloves, threads, needles, pins, tapes, purse twist, steel beads and trimmings together with a large assortment of fancy goods." Union House was a hotel built in 1846 according to the Springfield Daily Republican. In 1847 U.S. President James Polk stayed in the hotel for one night with his entourage which included Secretary of State and future president James Buchanan. Rented stores were on the first floor of the property.
