"Partita" is dedicated to Lazarof's son David. The work is scored for 2 trumpets, Horn in F, tenor Trombone and Tuba and precorded tracks. Earlier ideas for the work are dated from Feb. 1971. Lazarof composed the first draft between March 17 and April 11, 1971. The first draft is written in pencil, with meters, time markers and notes in red pencil; You can see edits and musical ideas worked out by Lazarof, which he then scribbled out. In the draft version of the manuscript, Lazarof makes detailed notes on page 9 about parts that are to be played "Live". On the back of the last page, there are notes by Lazarof working out the title. Also included in the folder are 5 pages of sketches that Lazarof crossed out. Along with those skeches, we have 12 small pieces of staff paper with musical ideas sketched out.
In the folder we have a copy of published version with some measures highlighted in red pencil, copies of manuscript versions of parts with notes written in pencil on Oscol No. 105 stave paper, a photophy of the horn part, a transparency copy of the trumpet part, a fair copy of the complete score is written on Cameo Music Paper H0 5-3124 paper, and a bound copy of a complete score with notes in red pencil.
