Letter from Joel M. and Barbara Halpern to Nettie and Carl Halpern
Description:
Letter from Joel and Barbara Halpern to Carl and Nettie Halpern describing their time in Laos. This letter describes the difficulty in finding suitable help to hire and some of the unskilled workers and house staff the Halperns did hire. The letter also describes some meetings with local dignitaries and other members of the USOM staff. The letter also describes some of the Halperns' thoughts on a visit to Vientiane by the International Development Advisory Board, which Halpern describes as the Fairless Committee because it was headed by Benjamin Fairless at the appointment of President Eisenhower and a meeting with John D. Rockefeller. This is a fragment of a longer letter.
