These field notes were included in letters from Joel M. Halpern to Carl and Nettie Halpern during the time spent in Laos with the United States Operations Mission. These are notes from Halpern's translator, Aram Udol, having interviewed an eldering woman from Luang Prabang who knew several tales of the comic folk hero and trickster, Xieng Mieng.
