Photocopied transcription of Chapin's diary detailing his experience in the 46th Regiment. The 46th Mass. was a nine-months regiments raised mostly in Springfield and served in North Carolina. Chapin describes the entire active duty of the regiment, including the Goldsboro expedition, the battles of Kinston, Whitehall and Goldsboro, and the defense of New Bern. The 46th mustered out in July at the expiration of their term. The typescript includes an introduction by the transcriber along with biographical and genealogical information.
