<mods:abstract>Oral history of Amelia Earhart’s Underground Flying Society, (a.k.a. the Amelia’s), a lesbian social club begun in 1979, based out of Lebanon, N.H., serving the Upper Valley area of Vermont and New Hampshire. Comprised of statements by numerous women from the group and edited together with music by Lee McDavid. Topics include how members learned about and joined the group; the clubhouse underneath the New Victoria Printing Press; events such as dances, talent shows, and singles nights; the diversity of the club's membership; the safety and relative confidentiality of the group; and its social and psychological importance to many members, providing friends, fun, and a place to come out and be a lesbian in a positive environment. Also discussed is the importance of the group's long-running classified ad, declaring, "Lesbians: Amelia's Social Group" and their P.O. box in Lebanon, which helped people find and contact them, and additionally made public a statement of lesbians' existence and community.</mods:abstract>
