Father graduated from UMass in 1930, worked on farms growing up and wanted to go to agriculture focused school. Started in forestry, changed to plant pathology. Was in ROTC at UMass and graduated with a commission in the Chemical Corps during Vietnam War. After military commission worked to bring military into compliance with environmental regulations until retirement. Lived in Van Meter, first baby boom class. Class size diminished by 1/3rd, which drove him to work hard. Discusses family UMass legacy and family drive to complete higher education at UMass. Father's work upon graduation surveying farms.
