Field report in the form of a memorandum from Joel M. Halpern to Robert J. Minges, Chief, Field Service Division, Vientiane, on the subject of Mekong Field Trip. Halpern discusses a field trip up the Mekong river, visits to several villages, especially the details of Pak Beng and Pak Tha. The report is very detailed with respect to rice production in each area, prices of goods, and status of education. He interviewed a teacher serving at the "Fundamental Education Center" in the village of Pak Neui, upstream from Pak Bemg. Halpern mentions different ethnic groups and their habits in his report: "Kha" (Lao Theung), "Meo" (Lao Sung or Hmong), and "Thai Lu" (Lao Loum).
