"Brief information concerning each of these programs is attached and a transcription from each of the six Council series has been shipped under separate cover."--1947 Peabody Awards entry form excerpts. This is an episode from the program "We Human Beings". This program discusses different facets of social relations. This episode focuses on how to get someone to do their best work and the importance of the right kind of incentives, featuring Dr. Gordon W. Allport, Professor of Psychology in the Department of Social Relations at Harvard University. He is joined by students to ask questions that the viewers might want to ask. He says that punishment is a risky incentive that often has the opposite effect of what was intended because punishment builds up resentment. He says in some situations, mild punishment may be helpful, if it is accepted beforehand. Positive incentives are the most effective; praise elicits the best responses, but people must have knowledge of the results, whether they are doing well or not. "The United Parents Association Forum informs the parents of the city of the activities of the U.P.A., and keeps the informed of the needs of the children, the schools, and the community. It also seeks to show listeners the need for close cooperation of all for the welfare of the children. The program contains [illegible] reports of the work actually done by the UPA. This work is discussed by members of the UPA and representatives of recognized social agencies. This program seeks to fill the void in radio in so far as programs for parents, as parents, are concerned."--1948 Peabody Digest.
