This episode focuses on how to get someone to do their best work and the importance of the right kind of incentives, featuring Dr. Gordon W. Allport, Professor of Psychology in the Department of Social Relations at Harvard University. He is joined by students to ask questions that the viewers might want to ask. He says that punishment is a risky incentive that often has the opposite effect of what was intended because punishment builds up resentment. He says in some situations, mild punishment may be helpful, if it is accepted beforehand. Positive incentives are the most effective; praise elicits the best responses, but people must have knowledge of the results, whether they are doing well or not. "The United Parents Association Forum informs the parents of the city of the activities of the U.P.A., and keeps the informed of the needs of the children, the schools, and the community.
