Nicolas Dubois de Chémant began to issue this text—part scientific tract, part advertisement—in France in 1788, advocating dentures which were more durable and produced no offensive odors. His work passed through five subsequent English editions; this is the fourth. The plate illustrates different types of dentures, both single teeth and rows, and their means of attachment in the mouth. Illustrated plate showing dentures from Nicolas Dubois de Chemant's A Dissertation on Artificial Teeth, Evincing the Advantage of Teeth Made of Mineral Paste, over Every Denomination of Animal Substance
