This essay was collected as part of the field notes, translated by Aram Udol, and sent in letters from Joel M. Halpern to Carl and Nettie Halpern during the time spent in Laos with the United States Operations Mission. This essay is from a 20 year-old teacher who teaches in a small mountain village not far from Luang Prabang. His students come from two or three different villages. He speaks about the life of the villagers, and their attitudes toward education.
