Letter on a single sheet from Noah Russell to his son Josiah Russell, dated December 9, 1818. Paper is 12 by 7 inches. It is addressed on the back to "Josiah Russell in the Town of Belleville in the state of New Jersey". Letter speaks of Noah's joy of hearing from his son, and that he was suffering from an illness, but was expected to be in Stafford next April (CT - where many of his other children moved, including "your brother Jason" noted in letter). Noah Russell had recently purchased a farm in Stafford. "Squire Whittemore" has returned from the south, and there is some confusing mention of his family's wish to not go further any longer. He urges Josiah to write and to meet him in Stafford or to come home to see his mother.
