This collection contains significant number of government/official correspondences, reports, formal letters, petitions, and historical articles concerning the growth, change, and preservation of institutions, structures and historical sites across the city. There are also articles about and interviews with Newton residents, many of whom made significant contributions to the area during their stay. There are photocopies of original documents from the 17th and 18th centuries, however, the bulk of the documents were produced from 1979 to 2000. The papers are currently held in two boxes. The largest amount of primary source documents related to a single subject are for the Newton Municipal Archives Project. The earliest materials relate to a grant proposal to the U.S. National Archives to support its development; the last are a detailed report of the archive's completion. The papers span from January 1977 to September 1980. There is also a significant number of documents related to the Newton Burial Ground Project, under the purview of the Newton Historical Commission. The materials include a grant application for its support, various newspaper clippings describing the Commission's work, and publications to raise awareness for the project. The materials span the period from June 1988 to April 1996. Included in the Husher Papers are real estate information, maps, and legislation related to the town as a whole and to its villages; these begin in 1635. There is also a collection of essays, lectures and newspaper articles on local history, many of which include the background research and source materials that the authors used to write them.
