Letter from Brewster Frost Ames to Benjamin Smith Lyman
Description:
Ames writes about traveling through the Philippines, from Manila to Masbate, to Tacloban, and Tananan Beach by boat, then to Palo on horseback, where he and Baker are settling in as teachers. He discusses architecture, demographics, cuisine, currency, and social life at each of his stops, with particular attention to Palo. Ames includes a floor plan of the house he and Baker are living in, and describes the availability of furniture, water, kerosene, and oil.
