Scale dial shows numbered pounds (1-24). Lettering printed on dial reads, "Hanson Nursery Scale" and "The childhood shows the man/As morning shows the day. --Milton" and "Made in Chicago USA" and "Covered by one or more of the following patents: 1,682,506 1,650,349 1,248,106 1,638,260 1,660,838 DES 89,843 [illegible; obscured by dial hand]" and "Graduated by Ounces." Also printed on dial are two tables, "Average Weight for Boys" and "Average Weight for Girls," and the image of a baby's head. The hand is black, showing spots of rust. Platform moves on a spring surrounded by a case made of metal plates bent and screwed together and attached to a wider metal base.
