Small account book kept by Ensign Kelley as a courier for the U.S. Sanitary Commission during the latter part of the Civil War after his discharge because of a wound. He traveled by train between Washington and New York caring for the sick and wounded. Entries include the date, soldiers's name, company, regiment, state, residence, where from, and occasional note on treatment (""both arms amp"", etc.). Blank pages were used by Kelley's wife to record recipes for cakes, puddings, lemon pie, etc. Donor included a photocopy of Kelley's certificate of disability for discharge, biographical note and explanatory note. Blank pages not scanned.
