From a series of images for the Norris Sunday Herald; feature, lecture. Helen "Gert" Swasey (1855-1934) had been a noted circus performer (horse act) who fell on hard times as she aged, but became known in her home in Haverhill for adopting stray dogs and alley cats in the 1920s.
