Joseph Sol Marcus (Acting Dean, School of Engineering) stands behind a chair while wearing a suit and boutonniere. Dr. Marcus first came to the University in 1948 as an instructor in, then professor of, engineering. He also served as an assistant dean, associate dean, Special Assistant to the Chancellor then as Acting Dean of Engineering before his retirement in 1984. He was instrumental in the transition of the university from a small state college to a major institution. Dr. Marcus died of cancer on November 1, 1985.
