- Title:
- Record of SC Alum serving in World War One and Two (1917-1919 & 1941-1945)
- Description:
-
This is a digital file of a binder containing the Record of Springfield College Alumni serving in World War I and World War II. The document is 471 pages long. The World War I records were created during World War I and mainly list where the alum served and when they served. Sometimes there is additional information on battles fought, injuries received, cause of death, awards given and where this information came from. The alum are listed alphabetically in two sections, including those alum that worked essentially for the allied forces and those that worked essentially for the YMCA. The World War II records were created sometime after the war ended, perhaps in 1946. These records only include alum who were part of the classes up to 1946, and does not include alum who attended the school after the war. Also, they seem to only include records of alum who died during the war, were held prisoner, went missing in action, and who won accommodation and awards such as a Purple Heart or Silver star (among others). Information includes were they fought, their rank, were they were wounded, went missing in action, or died, why they were awarded their medals or accommodations, and where this information came from (listing some newspaper articles and letters that were sent). There are a few copies of magazine and/or newspaper articles a that look to have come from either the Bulletin, the college's alumni magazine, or the Springfield Student. Most of them talk about the Gold Star veterans. The original document is bound in a two ring binder. The pages were removed from the binder to be scanned. The pages were scanned in their original order as they were in the binder at the time of scanning. Backs of the pages were not scanned unless there was writing on the document. The covers of the binder were not scanned or photographed.; Some, but not all, of the handwritten notes on the pages were transcribed, therefore not all information contained on these pages are keyword searchable.;
