Large, roughly oval shaped bandbox (.1a) of paper-covered, lightweight wood, with heavy wooden bottom and lid top (.1b); lid is one piece of wood with original paper facing detached (not present); oval section of lighter weight wood (.1c) originally nailed around sides of lid (now detached); 1 seam on .1c bound with string (added later?); original paper covering has white painted pattern of bowl of fruit, stencilled (?) leaf patterns; and painted green leaves on brown ground; paper on interior shows additional patterns in red and pink (not on exterior); paper later recovered with foliage pattern print in shades of green (remnants remain); interior, underside, and underside of lid lined with newspaper pages ranging in date from 1810 to 1910; later pages probably adhered when recovered (ca. 1910); latest date found on earlier pages was 1838; several pages from "Trumpet and Magazine."
