  <mods:abstract>This photograph shows the 1992 Springfield College women’s cross country team.</mods:abstract>
  <mods:note>Led by Coach Jim Pennington, they ranked eleventh in the NCAA Division II, making this the ninth consecutive year they were nationally ranked. The team also placed first at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship for the tenth straight year. At this time, Pennington was named NE-10 Coach of the Year. The most noted individual honor went to Katie Meehan for being named to the NCAA Division II All-American team for the second straight year. In 1974, Jim Pennington graduated from Towson State, where he was a standout 400-meter hurdler and NCAA qualifier. Prior to joining Springfield College, he started women’s cross country and track team at Towson State University and served as their head coach for five years. While coaching at Springfield College, he also served as an assistant professor physical education and director of intramural sports. During the summer Pennington served as the track director for the Massachusetts State Special Olympics and directs the oldest track/field and running camp in New England.</mods:note>
