<mods:abstract>This photograph shows the Springfield College 1995 women’s cross country team competing in a race. Some of the other schools in this competition were University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, Amherst, and Salem State. During this season, the Springfield College women’s cross-country team finished in first place at the Rhode Island College Invitational and the NE-10 Conference Championship. They placed in the top ten teams at all but one of their ten meets. Furthermore, Julie Washburn was ranked an All-American.</mods:abstract>
<mods:note>That season’s captains were Jen Novak, Livvy Williams, and Lea Reutlinger, all class of 1996. This was Jim Pennington’s twelve year coaching and he was assisted by Jana Morrison. In 1974, Jim Pennington graduated from Towson State, where he was a standout 400-meter hurdler and NCAA qualifier. Prior to joining Springfield College, he started women’s cross country and track team at Towson State University and served as their head coach for five years. While coaching at Springfield College, he also served as an assistant professor physical education and director of intramural sports. During the summer, Pennington served as the track director for the Massachusetts State Special Olympics and directs the oldest track and field camp in New England.</mods:note>
