  <mods:abstract>The document identifies Alberto Regina as the coach of the Argentina men's basketball team during the 1940 South American Championship. This tournament was held in Montevideo, Uruguay, from January 20-28. Uruguay won and Argentina placed second. A record of six teams competed, in spite of the World War that was underway. The YMCA brought basketball to Argentina in 1912. Argentina played its first international game in 1921 and held its first club championship in 1936.   <mods:note>Alberto Regina was born on August 3, 1900 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He graduated from the College of the South American YMCA in 1924. Regina worked as the physical education director in Chile, the physical education director for the Argentina YMCA, and the technical advisor for the Argentine Federation of Sport. He also coached the Argentina water polo team in the 1928 Olympics. In 1930, Regina attended Springfield College for graduate study. He died from surgery complications on January 24, 1948.</mods:note>
