Notes:
After graduation, he served as general secretary at the YMCA in Thompsonville, Connecticut (1896-1897), Amesbury, Massachusetts (1898-1900), and St. Johnsbury, Vermont (1901-1902). McGown died on August 28, 1948. On June 18, 1984, the St. Johnsbury YMCA was set on fire by two men hired by the owner of a neighboring barber shop who hoped the flames would spread to his building and burn it down. While the barbershop remained unharmed, the YMCA was completely destroyed. One of the arsonists murdered the other for threatening to confess. The owner of the barbershop was found guilty and served time in jail.
Some foxing.
