This lantern slide shows children from the Springfield Municipal Playground demonstrating calisthenics to a crowd. To the left, just barely in frame, is their instructor, likely a student at the International YMCA Training School, now known as Springfield College.

Notes:
The YMCA has always been actively involved in promoting the development of playgrounds. According to the 1910 Proceedings of the Third Annual Playground Congress, “Young men from the Springfield Y. M. C. A. Training School have done most efficient work in organizing and developing playgrounds during the past year.” During the early 20th century, calisthenics was an important part of Springfield College's physical education curriculum.
Text on border reads, "Springfield Municipal Playground."
