This hand-colored lantern slide shows Stuart Parks in the middle of completing his record-breaking broad jump, measured at 24 feet and 5/8 inches. He broke this record at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEIAAA), which was held May 18-19, 1934, at the International YMCA College’s Pratt Field.

Along with setting a new record, Parks was awarded the title of Outstanding Athlete. Parks graduated from Kingston High School (NY), where he was known for his football, basketball, and track abilities. In 1935, he graduated from the International YMCA College (now Springfield College). During this meet, Springfield hosted more than four hundred and fifty competitors. Springfield College was not admitted into the NEIAAA until 1932.
