Phil tells Harry that he's having Millard forward this letter to him since he still doesn't have Harry's address. He asks him how military life is suiting him, and bets that Harry can now "eat army stew like it was ice cream." He tells Harry that when he joined, the army wasn't hiring official cooks so all of their cooks were former engineers and machinists who spent five months experimenting before they became any good. He talks a bit about the military police that Harry has likely run into, and tells him not to get discouraged.
