Phil has not moved since he last wrote, and his experience in carpentry has earned him a promotion to corporal. It's not much of a rise, but it's a start and it pays an additional $6 per month. He recently took out a life insurance policy, but hopes it won't be necessary. He's setting aside a monthly allotment for Aunt Annie and hopes she'll get the first payment by July. Uncle George sounds like he is not doing well, but there's not much they can do except hope for the best. He hasn't heard from Aunt Sarah yet, and he's received one letter from Hazel. He makes a comment about Whitaker being elected major back home.
