Phil received the box of cookies from Anna, although he's puzzled as to who wrote the address on the box since it's not handwriting he recognizes. The cookies can be acquired in Texas, but they are expensive so no one buys much of them. He's thankful for the box too, since he can use it to store his soap and razor. He's upset that he hasn't heard back from "Leafy" yet, but plans to get over it. He's still uncertain about when they will be leaving, but everyone hopes it will be soon. He comments that he hasn't seen many horses in Texas, certainly none as nice as the horses back home on the farm, but he has seen a lot of nice mules.
