A flyer for the Department for the Training of Gymnasium Instructors at the School for Student Workers (now Springfield College) Summer School in 1887. The flyer talks about the first Summer courses held for the new YMCA Physical Department that would train gymnasium instructors to run YMCA Gymnasiums, called, at the time the Department for the Training of Gymnasium Instructors. Two recently hired gymnasium instructors are listed as running the program: Robert J. Roberts, the man who coined the phrase "Body Builders" and Luther Halsey Gulick, widely regarded as the father of modern day physical education and recreation. The flyer talks about the course, the cost and how to apply for admissions.
