Wicker rug beater, about 31" long. Made of wood or rattan, with two pieces loosely woven to form a round head. The ends double and are twisted to form the handle, which is reinforced with wire. A third piece of wood strengthens the handle's attachment to the head. Rug beaters were commonly used in the 19th century, when coal and woodburning stoves produced more dirt that had to be cleaned.
